One of the challenges of a seasonal change in Winnipeg, is the change in temperature from winter to spring. As the temperature starts to get above freezing, melting occurs that can have a damaging effect on your garage door. During the day all that snow that has been sitting in the corner of your driveway and pushed up against the garage door, or packed down at the seal point can melt and sit there during the day then as the temperature drops in the evening and overnight that water can freeze the garage door st its base and damage the rubber seal.
Also if you attempt to open the door in the morning and it is still frozen to the ground, it can put stress on the rollers, chain drive and your garage door opener. Common damage is the rubber seal can give way and rip which now requires a replacement seal.
Maintenance and Snow Removal
A simple way to prevent this kind of damage is to simply ensure that the snow that has built up over the winter is removed from the base of your garage door and cleared away from the driveway. If you have any low spots near your door, be aware of them and ensure water does not pool there during thaws and freezing.
It sounds simple but you would be surprised how many calls we get this time of year where people have a frozen or stuck door that needs our assistance.
